Vibrant Raw Chocolate Class
at Lyons Yoga and Wellness (LYW) 310 Main Street, Lyons, CO
with food-as-medicine chef Sandy Robinson, founder of the Living and Eating Cleaner Program
When certain foods are left raw (uncooked) their life force is kept intact. Many beneficial enzymes that help us digest and absorb nutrients are also maintained. Over time, a lack of these enzymes (too much cooked food) may lead to digestive problems, nutrient deficiency, weight gain, accelerated aging, and possibly a decrease in overall health.
In this class we created and enjoyed an assortment (including brownies, candy, even a cool beverage) of raw chocolate yummies. These tasty super-food treats contain high amounts of preserved antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and more. They are naturally free of processed sugars, gluten, grains and dairy. With my experience and a sprinkling of culinary magic… nutritiousness and deliciousness come together as one.

The Holiday Edition: Gluten-free Treats (and Tricks) for the Holidays
Presentation and Cooking Demo - Boulder County Celiacs - Left Hand Grange, No. 9 - Niwot
Gluten-free chef Mary Capone and I were a cooking tag-team for this event. Chef Mary demonstrated lovely muffins and pumpkin pie, while I demonstrated how to make pate du soleil (sprouted sunflower seed pate). Along with the pate, I also offered samples of naturally gluten-free raw/living cacao donuts and vegan cheese with crudite. I felt inspired to share my take on food justice and serving nutrient-dense food to the larger community.

I also spoke of my personal journey relating to eating and living clean(er) and that I was seeking support from other practitioners, both in and out of the Altermed community to consider participating/presenting in the program.

I also had my hand-painted recycled pottery displayed and offered many treats including lemon and lavender lemonade, savory herb and cinnamon sweet gourmet popcorn, raw/living brownie fudge bars and double ginger muffins with lemon cardamon icing. All goodies and art were offered by donation in the spirit of peaceNcarrots.
