Greetings from Sandyland! Some of my current inspiration is based on a quote by Ian Wallace: 'Why have I been trying to fit in when I was born to stand out?'
P R E V I O U S E V E N T S Abundantly Healthful Thanksgiving and/or Hanukkah... simply deelish dishes for celebrations - cooking class Our class menu included roasted Brussel's Sprouts, Latkes (potato pancakes) with a choice of toppings, and Chai Spice Squash Pudding with Maple Whipped Cream. We enjoyed laughter, questions (and answers!), yumminess, sharing wisdom and more.
It’s Only Natural… Holiday Decor - art and adventure experience We created luminarias from leaves, twigs and other found objects we collected on a walk... layering them onto glass globes and then placing a lit candle inside.
Eco-art Art Class Each student created their own piece of functional eco-art pottery with Sandy at the helm. Some even had some insights about their own creativity along the way.
Vibrant Raw Chocolate Class with food-as-medicine chef Sandy Robinson, founder of the Living and Eating Cleaner Program When certain foods are left raw (uncooked) their life force is kept intact. Many beneficial enzymes that help us digest and absorb nutrients are also maintained. Over time, a lack of these enzymes (too much cooked food) may lead to digestive problems, nutrient deficiency, weight gain, accelerated aging, and possibly a decrease in overall health. In this class we created and enjoyed an assortment (including brownies, candy, even a cool beverage) of raw chocolate yummies. These tasty super-food treats contain high amounts of preserved antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and more. They are naturally free of processed sugars, gluten, grains and dairy. With my experience and a sprinkling of culinary magic… nutritiousness and deliciousness come together as one. We romanced the bean… the cocoa bean, that is.
Living Cleaner Cleanse - WORKSHOP with Chef Sandy Robinson, founder of the Living and Eating Cleaner Program In this afternoon workshop we covered smoothies vs. fresh-pressed juices, transitioning from where you are to where you’d like to be, self-care, detoxing, food sensitivities, gluten, gourmet raw food, options for further support…
Live Event and video taping We enjoyed raw brownies and conversations about the benefits of raw food... as I created a few pieces of my functional eco-art on site. Click here for the short video
Eating and Living Clean(er) in a Dirty(er) World - The Holiday Edition: Gluten-free Treats (and Tricks) Presentation and Cooking Demo Gluten-free chef Mary Capone and I were a cooking tag-team for this event. Chef Mary demonstrated lovely muffins and pumpkin pie, while I demonstrated how to make pate du soleil (sprouted sunflower seed pate). Along with the pate, I also offered samples of naturally gluten-free raw/living cacao donuts and vegan cheese with crudite. I felt inspired to share my take on food justice and serving nutrient-dense food to the larger community.
Eating and Living Clean(er) in a Dirty(er) World Presentation and Cooking Demo In a beautiful penthouse with an amazing view of the Flatirons I shared my experience, research, tips and inspiration. My cooking demonstration was the pate du soleil (sunflower seed pate) along with samples of my hand-crafted vegan cheese ('good-ahh', like gooda), lavender lemonade and other tasty morsels. On this night I shared a recent vision for creating a cleanse group, possibly called The Living Cleaner Program. I also spoke of my personal journey relating to eating and living clean(er) and that I was seeking support from other practitioners (both in attendance and beyond) to consider participating/presenting in the program.
Stage C - A variety of community entertainment featuring music, spoken word and more... with Jamie Wolf, Ryan Jacob, Anita Jepson-Gilbert, Dave Starr, and myself They interviewed me regarding my work with feeding the hungry and houseless in their Community Connection segment. I also had my hand-painted recycled pottery displayed and offered many treats including lemon and lavender lemonade, savory herb and cinnamon sweet gourmet popcorn, raw/living brownie fudge bars and double ginger muffins with lemon cardamon icing. All goodies and art were offered by donation in the spirit ofpeaceNcarrots.
